Although, for a least a short period of time, it seemed like writer/director Nicolas Winding Refn was going to be making the jump from independent to studio films with the upcoming horror movie The Bringing for Sony, it appears that is no longer going to be happening.
Justin Kroll, of Variety, tweeted the following a little after noon:
Well this is a bummer, hearing Nic Refn will not direct THE BRINGING at Sony as negotiations have stalled. Too bad

Centered on true events, the film, written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, was going to be based on the mysterious death of Elisa Lam, who ended up dead on the roof of a downtown LA hotel in a water tank. The film would also focus on the aftermath that would fall following those trying to connect the dots on her death. Refn signed on to the movie last month.
Considering how big of a horror fan Refn is, it is disappointing that he will no longer be working on the project. But, with that in mind, fans should still be happy to know that the director is still attached to make the all-female horror movie I Walk with the Dead, which he announced only last week was going to be his next film.
