A man in Florida evidently forgot to drop his infant daughter off at the babysitter’s house before going to work and left the child in his hot pickup truck.

Florida Today reported that after realizing what he had done, Steven Lillie told emergency dispatchers that he made a tragic mistake.

"She's been in the car for hours and I absolutely forgot about her," the distraught father said. "She's not alive."

According to WFTV, Lillie went to work at the Fraternal Order of Police telemarketing office just after noon on Monday. He left the building around 4:45 p.m. at which time he found his daughter’s lifeless body, strapped in her car seat.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child, but were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Temperatures in the area had been hovering close to 90 degrees, which means the temperature inside the vehicle would have been even higher.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the infant’s exact cause of death.

Criminal charges have not been filed and investigators are still talking to Lillie and his wife, who are said to be cooperating fully.
