A biopic surrounding rap group NWA has been in pre-production for more than five years now. The film, which is titled Straight Outta Compton, has received the green light by Universal to move forward.
Billboard reported that sources close to the project have announced that the three leading actors have been cast to play the roles of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Easy-E.
Casting had to be signed off by Cube, Dre and Eazy-E's widow Tomica Wright, and all three have reached the decision to cast the following actors. O’Shea Jackson Jr., the son of Cube, has been cast to play a younger version of his dad.
Marcus Callender, is a classically trained actor will be playing the role of Dr. Dre in the upcoming bio pic. Originally Dr. Dre wanted Michael B. Jordan to play himself on the big screen, but scheduling didn’t work out because of the recent casting of Jordan in The Fantastic Four reboot, MTV added.
The last cast member to be reported was Jason Mitchell. Mitchell is also a relativity unknown actor who got the role after doing very well during his out-of-the-park screen test.
This has been through many different revisions but in 2012 F. Gary Gary who is known for his work in The Italian Job, became attached the to the film and following that news Jonathan Herman signed on to do a major script rewrite.
