An Ohio woman has died from injuries she suffered after she accidentally walked into the propeller of an idle airplane.
According to the Associated Press, Sarah Rhoads of Miamisburg, died at a local hospital early on Tuesday.
Rhoads was an office manager for a skydiving business that operates near Middletown Regional airport.
The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reported that on Sunday, the 24-year-old accidentally walked into the plane’s propeller after she stepped out of the hanger to ask the pilot a question.
She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition.
The skydiving business owner where Rhoads worked said that sometimes it can be hard to see the rapidly-spinning blades.
“Usually the propellers are going so fast, you can’t see them. She probably walked around the nose and didn’t see it,” owner John Hart said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the incident. Meanwhile the airport is planning to pay tribute to the victim by renaming an annual event after her.
