One person was killed and five others were injured Friday morning in a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway in New Jersey.
According to the Associated Press, authorities confirmed that the accident happened after 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway and six people were ejected from a vehicle.
State Police spokesman Trooper Jeffrey Flynn said that the deceased is an adult and at least two of the injured are children.
The Press of Atlantic City reported that some of the victims, including a five-year-old, were riding in the bed of a pickup truck when they were ejected.
They were airlifted from the expressway and flown to a nearby hospital with head injuries and multiple fractures. The casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.
As a result of the crash, the westbound lanes in the area were forced to shut down, however, the lanes have since reopened.
There is no word yet on what caused the fatal one-car accident, but authorities are continuing to investigate.
