Authorities have said that one person has been killed and another was injured after a building in Cherry Hill, New Jersey collapsed on Friday afternoon.

According to NBC10, a construction worker was trapped and killed after the building, which was in the process of being demolished, collapsed around 1 p.m.

Fire Director Patrick Kelly said the demolition was almost complete when the building unexpectedly came down. The worker inside was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I'd say 98.9 percent of it was down. This is the last piece that was there and unfortunately, something happened where the wall came down on a worker," Kelly said.

Reuters reported that another worker was injured in the collapse and transported to a local hospital. That person’s injuries are
not known at this time.

Rescue workers remain on the scene and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is trying to determine what exactly caused the collapse.

The building being taken down formally housed a Blockbuster video rental store.
