Today may be a sad day for emphatic Orange is the New Black fans. It looks like our (least) favorite, C.O. George Mendez (Pablo Schreiber), will not be returning for season three.

Mendez has served as the main character we’ve all loved to hate throughout the first two seasons of the show, although he only appeared about halfway through the second time around. Affectionately known as ‘Pornstache’ by OITNB fans, Mendez treats the inmates horrendously but can be depended upon to utter particularly biting and inappropriately hilarious one-liners time and time again. But after getting suspended on the job for (supposedly) knocking up Daya, the snarky prison guard will be spending some quality time in his own cell.

Schreiber most recently attended the premiere for Melissa McCarthy’s new comedy film, Tammy, and generously opened up about his character’s future. Sorry, inmates! It doesn’t look too bright!

When asked about the possibility for more Pornstache screen time in season three, Schreiber reportedly smiled and shook his head. "I'm a series regular now on a show called The Brink on HBO,” the 36-year-old actor told Vulture.

Alas, there’s still hope of keeping Mendez’s plotline alive and kicking, leading to Schreiber’s possible return in the future. “But his mother is making an appearance on season three,” he continued. “Mary Steenburgen has been cast as my mom. I'm not sure what she'll do that will advance the Pornstache plotline, but for now, Mendez is in prison, biding his time. Spoiler alert!"

Fellow cast member Alysia Reiner is also beginning to focus on other projects.

The Brink is a comedy about the US military attempting to stop the outbreak of WWIII. You can catch the show’s premiere on HBO later this year.
