Well, it's official: after weeks of back-and-forth conversations as to who would be directing Marvel's Ant-Man after Edgar Wright left the project, the studio has finally announced his succesor, Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man).

The news was announced in a press release printed on Marvel.com, which included a new synopsis for the film.

Reed was announced as the frontrunner yesterday, despite rumors that Paul Rudd's filmmaker friend David Wain (Role Models) was also being considered for the job.

In addition to this announcement, this press release also revealed that Adam McKay, who was set to direct the movie only to back out of conversations, will remain on the project "contributing" as a writer. Just how much impact he will have on the overall project will have to be determined in the weeks to come.

Since the film has received such troubled media based on its script, the news of McKay's hire suggest that the studio is hoping to turn public opinion around in short time. What should be noted, though, is that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish receive no notice for their work on the screenplay here, which suggest that Marvel is moving farther and farther away from their vision of the film. Which, ultimately, should be a bigger bruise for fans than Marvel would like to believe.
