One person has died after a small, one-engine plane crashed in Westchester County, New York Friday. The victim is the pilot.
Officials said that the plane crashed only minutes after it took off at Westchester County Airport, reports The New York Daily News. There were no others on the plane with the pilot and no one on the ground was injured.
According to NBC New York, the plane came down just after 8 a.m. Friday morning in Harrison, New York. The crash happened near the SUNY Purchase campus.
It was reported that there was fog and low visibility near the airport when the crash happened.
The Westchester County Journal-News reports that the plane was headed to Portland, Maine, a flight that only lasts an hour and 14 minutes. The plane was registered to Richard Rockefeller of Falmouth, Maine and it is not known if he is related to the Rockefeller family.
The Federal Aviation Administration has said that the plane was a Piper PA-46, which seats six and typically costs $2.2 million. It is 30 feet long and has a 43-foot wingspan.
