President Obama is taking a break from the White House and spending Father’s Day at Porcupine Creek Estate in Southern California.
Obama and his aides spent some time on the golf course, playing a round, reports USA Today.
Though the president kept his day clear on Father’s Day, he will reportedly be consulting with his aides about possible U.S. responses to jihadist threats against the Iraqi government.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama received updates on the situation from National Security adviser Susan Rice and “directed her to continue to keep him appraised of the latest developments, as his national security team continues to meet through the weekend to review potential options,” according to USA Today.
Though Sasha did not make the trip, Obama has been spending time with First Lady Michelle and his oldest daughter Malia.
“I think frankly we’ve all been through a cold and bitter winter and [Obama] has cabin fever,” said Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, reports The Associated Press. “His cabin is a little bit bigger and harder to escape than most.”
