A private plane caught fire and crashed before even managing to take off from Hanscom Field airport in Massachusetts on Saturday night.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, Jim Peters, said that the Gulfstream IV was taking off when it ran off the runaway as it caught fire, reports The Boston Globe. He also noted that the National Transportation Safety Board will partner with the FAA for an investigation into the plane crash.
The private plane was said to have had seven occupants, but there have yet to be any reports on their condition or if they made it out of the plane. The airport, which is used both by the Hanscom Air Force Base and the general public, was closed as firefighters and a hazardous materials team were summoned.
This was the second aerial accident on the day as a Colorado plane crashed early in the morning after taking off from Front Range Airport in Adams county. Both occupants inside the small two-seater were killed.
The plane was found barely a mile away from the airport after being reported missing three hours after it left the airport.
