Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts has been hired to write the script for the upcoming Doctor Strange film.
Deadline broke the news of Spaihts’ involvement. Spaihts will be writing the second draft of the script, as the first draft was penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Scott Derrickson will direct the film and Kevin Feige is producing.
Casting has not yet been announced, but The Wrap reported that Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto are Marvel’s top choices for the role. Tom Hardy was also said to be in the running, but his availability is in question.
The character of Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the 1960s, according to Hitflix. Once a brilliant neurosurgeon, Strange learns the mystic arts and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, Earth’s defender against the supernatural. The name “Stephen Strange” first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Spaihts is also working on the reboot of The Mummy for Universal.
