Wednesday is the tenth anniversary of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling’s epic love story The Notebook, and to mark the occasion, McAdams’ original audition tape has been released.

Director Nick Cassavetes explained in a featurette that he didn’t know who the then-up and coming actress was, but when she auditioned with Gosling, he knew right away she was the perfect fit.

“Some of them were really, really great," Cassavetes explained of the 9 "very well-known" actresses before her who had auditioned, Us Weekly reports.

For her part, McAdams felt great about the audition, too. "I read the script the night before and bawled my eyes out. It was the best audition experience I've ever had,” she said.

Huffington Post reports The Notebook hit theaters on June 25, 2004, and it spawned successful careers for both stars. Gosling and McAdams even dated for a few years in between. Gosling told GQ in 2007, “people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that."
