A house owned by former Pittsburgh Steeler and current Mississippi State assistant coach Deshea Townsend was the site of a massive drug bust where police arrested two men Sunday night.
Townsend was not arrested and there is no evidence that he was involved.
The Mississippi State athletics department released a statement saying, “Deshea Townsend has learned that the arrests occurred at a property titled in his name in the Mount Washington area of Pittsburgh…The property in question was the subject of a lease purchase agreement executed in March 2012, NFL.com reports.
DEA and police seized 1,500 bricks of heroin, 16 firearms, more than $100,00 in cash and jewelry, two luxury vehicles, Cuban cigars and a live chicken, according to a CBS Pittsburgh report.
Residents were surprised to hear that the house was a major heroin operation distribution point.
One resident told CBS Pittsburgh, “I was surprised to see that. We don’t see that here.”
Another resident said, “Deshea was good guy, quiet guy, I knew him pretty well. These guys here, I didn’t know anything about them.”
The two men arrested were charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin, illegal possession of firearms, criminal conspiracy and belonging to a corrupt organization.
