Rihanna’s dress - or lack thereof - at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards in New York on Monday night is still a main topic of discussion hours after it debuted. The dress left almost nothing to the imagination, exposing Rihanna’s nipples and was even backless.
The dress was designed by Adam Selman and the “Diamonds” singer told E! News that she does plan on wearing it again at some point. “Why? Yes I am. Do my t-ts bother you? They're covered in Swarovski crystals!” she told the site.
However, a member of her entourage must have suggested that she take it off for a night on the town and she did change outfits after the ceremony.
According to Style.com, the attention-getting dress was covered with 230,000 Swarovski cystals.
“We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous,” Selman told Style.com. “The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.”
Selman has worked with Rihanna since 2011, so he clearly knows what’s best for the singer, who is never afraid to push the fashion envelope. After all, she was honored for that at the awards, where she accepted the 2014 CFDA Fashion Icon Award.
“It brings such a Rihanna feel to the whole thing,” Selman said of the dress. “It seals the deal.”
