Annapurna Pictures announced on Wednesday that they have optioned the film rights for journalist Amanda Lindhout's memoir A House In The Sky and Rooney Mara is attached to star.
The Canadian journalist's memoir, which was co-written by Sara Corbett, follows 15 months she spent as the captive of Somalia pirates and how she was treated during that time and her mental and physical conditions, reports Deadline.
Lindhout was captured, along with Nigel Brennan, Abdifatah Mohammed Elmi and their two drivers in 2008 and during her time as their prisoner she was raped and abused. She was eventually released when her family came up with the ransom.
In addition to starring, Mara will also produce alongside Megan Ellison, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Chelsea Barnard is stepping in to executive produce for Annapurna.
"Rooney Mara is someone who talent and adventurous spirit I admire deeply," Lindhout said. "I'm thrilled that she's teaming up with Annapurna Pictures to bring A House In The Sky to the screen. I can't imagine a better match."
The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo star will be seen in the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, titled Pan. She will play Tiger Lily.
