Oscar nominee Rooney Mara has signed on for another project, even with a big studio project in the works at the moment. Mara will star in and produce A House in the Sky, a project Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is developing.
Annapurna has optioned the book, a memoir by Amanda Lindhout and Sara Corbett, specifically for Mara to work on, reports TheWrap.
She will play Lindhout, an explorer who enjoyed visiting the most dangerous places on the planet. However, she found herself in more danger than she ever expected in 2008, when she was abducted in Somalia. The book was published in 2013.
Mara will co-produce the project with Ellison. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Annapurna’s Chelsea Barnard will oversee the production for the studio.
Lindhout said in a statement that she has deep respect for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star, adding, “I'm thrilled that she's teaming with Annapurna Pictures to bring A House in the Sky to the screen. I can't imagine a better match.”
Mara recently starred in Side Effects and Spike Jonze’s Her. She is playing Tiger Lily in Warner Bros.’ Peter Pan film Pan and made a film with Terrence Malick that is still untitled. The actress, who shot to fame in The social Network, was nominated for an Oscar for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
As for Annapurna Pictures, the studio helped finance two Best Picture nominees last year - Her and American Hustle.
