This book by Rosemary Gladstar, is one of a series called “Books for Self-Reliance.” I think in the current culture it would be very well received by the “prepper” community, no offense intended. It is incredibly useful to know how to do things ourselves, especially when we may not be able to get things from the usual source.

This book shows the reader how to make homemade Tinctures, Teas and Treatments that help soothe stress and anxiety. They are also useful in strengthening the nervous system. I did notice that one or more treatments involved alcohol. And before the reader may pass judgment, keep in mind this, along with the rest of the necessary ingredients, has been used for decades with good result. It is medicinal and when used in the appropriate quantity, is helpful.

Gladstar highlights 21 herbs that have been shown to be helpful to lessen common symptoms of stress, like headaches, insomnia and depression. She also goes further to claim that even panic attacks, migraines and herpes can be soothed through the administration of these combination of herbs. Even if you don’t enjoy tea, Gladstar says that you can use the treatments in capsule or tincture form and also sometimes, enjoy them in a nice warm bath.
I like this book and I like the lets-get-back-to-nature movement. We’d all be far healthier if we stopped pumping chemicals into our bodies daily!
