Royal Canadian police have arrested Justin Bourque, a man who was suspected of killing three police officers and wounding two others.
The incident occurred in the city of Moncton, a city located near St. John, New Brunswick. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable Damien Theriault said police quickly responded to a call, and have arrested the 24 year-old suspect.
During the search for Bourque, police asked citizens to remain indoors, according to Reuters. Officers and trained canines conducted a ground search. Officers from a nearby province were called in for the investigation, and even a police helicopter was utilized in the search. All cars were asked to remain out of the area while officers blocked off roads and backed up pathways.
Witnesses said that the gunman was wearing military fatigues and pointing a weapon at police cars, before he eventually killed Const. Dave Ross and other RCMP officers. New Brunswick Premier David Alward said these kinds of incidents are incredibly difficult to comprehend.
"This is working through your worst nightmare," New Brunswick RCMP Commanding Officer Roger Brown said at a news conference Thursday morning, according to CTVNews.
