Another Harry Potter star is heading to the Great White Way. Rupert Grint, who played Ron, will star in the A-list comedy It’s Only A Play with a stunning array of co-stars.
Grint will have to prove his acting chops on the same stage as Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham. Newcomer Micah Stock was also cast.
Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news, notes that Jack O’Brien is directing the play, which was penned by Terrence McNally. The extremely limited production will open on Oct. 9 at the Schoenfeld Theatre and will run 17 weeks.
The play was written by McNally in 1982 and centers on a playwright (Broderick) waiting for reviews to come in for a new production with his actors and crew. Grint will play the director, reports Variety.
Grint’s Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe has become a Broadway regular in recent years and can currently be seen in The Cripple of Inishmaan through July. Radcliffe also did Equus and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Grint appeared on stage on London’s West End, performing in Mojo by Jez Butterworth. Unlike Radcliffe, he’s struggled to establish himself on the feature film side and even did a TV pilot called Super Clyde that wasn’t picked up and never aired.
