Sam Raimi certainly isn’t going to be in Kansas anymore for his next project. The prolific producer is looking to turn CNN host Jake Tapper’s The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor into a film. While Raimi will definitely produce, he might also take the director’s chair.
The book is being adapted by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who earned an Oscar nomination for The Fighter. According to Deadline, Raimi is producing and overseeing the development of the script, so he’s going to be busy in every aspect of the project. Rob Tapert and Paul Merryman are co-producing.
The title outpost is Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan, where a small group of American soldiers fought off 400 members of the Taliban in October 2009. In a statement to Variety, Raimi said that he is “honored to be a part” of the film.
Tapper is currently the host of CNN’s The Lead and is also the network’s top Washington correspondent.
Raimi’s last effort as director was obviously nothing like The Outpost. He helmed Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful, which was a box office hit, but received mixed critical response. He is best known for directing the first Spider-Man trilogy, as well as the cult Evil Dead films.
He is also a busy producer and is currently overseeing a Poltergeist remake in that capacity.
