Smith performed the cover on the radio program, Sirius XM Hits 1. They posted the video over the weekend for viewing on the internet. The video is getting attention on You Tube, as well with views nearing over one million.

Smith appeared with a keyboard player and guitarist in the video, according to Hollywood Life. He croons at a microphone.

Sam Smith, 21, told Rolling Stone, “"A Whitney Houston song that makes me happy – it's a feel-good song. I love the juxtaposition of a melancholy lyric with an upbeat sound. People forget that's how she rose to fame. The more mature Whitney, like 'I Will Always Love You,' came later."

Smith says that he inspired by female vocalists, and also includes Mariah Carey, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin as some of the artists that reminded him about “empowerment and independence.”

A snippet of the song appeared in a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy.
