After rumors circulated for years about a film adaptation of one of John Green’s most popular novels Looking for Alaska, it is finally coming true as a director has officially been chosen and announced.

Reported earlier in the week, Sarah Polley (Away From Her, Take This Waltz, Stories We Tell) first won the writing job after a strong pitch with her vision for the film and has now landed herself the Director’s chair as well.

The novel takes place at a boarding school telling the story of Miles Halter, one of the new students, and his friends including Alaska Young, a girl who continuously captives Halter. Audiences watch the group of friends grow and experience typical teenager woes while being away from home.

While the project was originally to be done by Paramount Pictures, according to Entertainment Weekly, back in 2005, it never took off providing Watermark Pictures the ability to start over.

Green could barely contain his excitement via Twitter today as he announced the news with his tweet, “I'm a HUGE fan of Sarah's movies, and her ideas about Looking for Alaska are really wonderful, and I am SO VERY EXCITED.”

With Green’s other novel Paper Towns also in development, fans of the author are looking forward to seeing more of his stories brought to life soon.
