Earlier this month, a brave young man named Jon Meis stopped a gunman on a college campus in Seattle and now he has been honored with having an engineering scholarship named for him.
According to the Kansas City Star, at Seattle Pacific University’s graduation ceremony, President Daniel Martin surprised Jon Meis during his graduation with the announcement.
During the June 5 shooting, Meis was in the same building where the gunman had paused to reload his shotgun. Meis used the opportunity to pepper spray him and tackle him before anyone else could be hurt. One person was killed while two sustained injuries. The suspected shooter faces a murder charge, as well as attempted murder.
Q13 Fox reported that one of the shooting victims was released from the hospital two days after the shooting occurred. The other victim, Sarah Williams, underwent five hours of surgery after being wounded and she was released from the hospital on Friday.
Williams’ family has also reportedly asked for privacy as Sarah continues to recover.
