John Kerry who is the secretary of state said the United States is open to discussions with Iran. The conversation would imply that the U.S. would help Iran with the Iraq Shi’ite-led government. Kerry says Iran can hopefully have something constructive to contribute and also do something that is gong to respect the integrity of Iraq.
"We're open to discussions if there is something constructive that can be contributed by Iran, if Iran is prepared to do something that is going to respect the integrity and sovereignty of Iraq," said Kerry in an interview with Yahoo! News.
The secretary of state brings to light that there have been some issues with communication between Prime Minister Maliki and Iraq. He says it is not the United States job or any other countries job to issue instructions or give any orders to Maliki. Kerry says Maliki and his government must focus more on reaching out to Iraq.
"I don't think the United States should be issuing instructions or orders. I don't think any country should. We are adamant that Prime Minister Maliki and his government must do a better job of reaching out to all the representative entities in Iraq and bring them to the table. That has not happened sufficiently," said Kerry, according to Yahoo! News.
Overall, Kerry wants the violence to stop in Iraq, so having what he calls a constructive process includes doing business with Iran. He wants the outside forces and terrorist to stop ripping Iraq apart. He wants the integrity of the country to be strong, which means Iran needs to make sure they do there part of solving this issue.
"I think we are open to any constructive process here that could minimize the violence, hold Iraq together -- the integrity of the country --and eliminate the presence of outside terrorist forces that are ripping it apart," said Kerry, reported by CNN.
