A shooting on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter injured nine people.
Frank Robertson, the police spokesman in New Orleans, said the shooting happened early Sunday morning.
One person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while several others who were hospitalized were in stable condition, reported the Associated Press.
The shooting took place two blocks from the historic Jackson Square.
According to an eyewitness, an angry man shot at another before turning on the crowd, reported USA Today.
Another witness told WWL-TV that the shooter appeared to target the one man and then the crowd.
“Just turned around and he start shooting at the crowd. He seemed pissed off at some dude, pulled the gun out and started shooting at the guy then turned around on the crowd and started shooting at us.”
Mayor Mitch Landrieu promised that justice would be served.
“Our No.1 priority is to keep New Orleans safe. These kinds of incidents will not go unanswered…I am confident that between video evidence and eyewitnesses accounts, we will bring the perpetrators to just,” he said in a statement issued through City Hall spokesman Tyler Gamble.
