Cameron Crowe knows a thing a two about the music industry, considering his Academy Award winning Almost Famous was a semi-autobiographical tale of his life as a music journalist at 15, and has chronicled much of the Seattle’s music scene. The writer and director now has received order for his new comedy Roadies and pilot to appear on Showtime.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the comedy follows crewmembers working behind the scenes of a successful rock tour. The show also carries heavy hitters in the executive producer role with J.J. Abrams, and Winnie Holzman of My So-Called Life and Wicked fame.
Showtime Networks president David Nevins stated he is a huge fan of Crowe, calling him one of his, “all-time movie heroes.” Nevins also stated, “The comedy script they've come up with together is brilliant, original and full of life.”
Variety also noted Crowe has been talking about collaborating on the project for some time now. Crowe stated he is a huge fan of the crews that worked so hard in the background. “Those quietly devoted people live huge lives, they’re often the real keepers of the flame.”
