Remember the singing nun that wowed the world in March by belting out Alicia Keys’ “No One” on Italy’s version of The Voice? Well, three months after that performance, she has gone on to win the entire competition.
Sister Cristina Scuccia of Sicily shocked the judges during the blind auditions, as they couldn’t believe that it was a nun singing when they turned their chairs. Her performance of the Keys song became an international viral video and now has over 51 million views.
During the competition, she sang hits from Bon Jovi and Cyndi Lauper, but for her final performance, she picked the iconic Flashdance song “What A Feeling.” She was announced as the winner right after performing. She earned 62 percent of the viewers’ votes, reports The Associated Press.
Despite her success, she remained humble. “My dream is to recite Our Father together,” she said after being declared the winner, The New York Times notes.
Sister Cristina was on Team J-Ax with the Italian rapper. The odd pairing was not missed by the Italian media, who dubbed them “the devil and the holy water.”
“I hope you can make a change out there, and be an example,” J-Ax told her during the finale.
Sister Cristina said that if she does get to make a record, the profits would go to building a hospital or school in Brazil, where she previously worked with poor children.
