In a curious partnership between two media at very different ends of the spectrum of technological evolution, SiriusXM satellite radio and YouTube are combining forces to launch The YouTube15.
The weekly show will be hosted by YouTube star Jenna Marbles and will countdown the most popular music on the Google-owned video site.
The series will launch on July 11 at 6 p.m. and air each Friday on SiriusXM Hits 1. It will re-air during the weekends and will also be available on the SiriusXM smartphone app and other devices, plus at SiriusXM.com.
Marbles is a successful YouTube content creator, publishing new posts every Wednesday and recently reaching 200 videos. She has 13 million subscribers and her work has over 1.5 billion views.
SiriusXM president/chief content officer Scott Greenstein said in a statement that the show should help introduce SiriusXM Hits 1 listeners to a wider variety of new and emerging artists.
“Our nationwide audience tunes to SiriusXM Hits 1 as the home of the best pop music and the first place to play new artists and new music,” he said. “With The YouTube 15, we will take that promise of music discovery even further, delivering songs emerging from YouTube directly into the car and also through the SiriusXM app for smartphones and tablets.”
