According to The Holywood Reporter, Sony will be partnering with the Marza Animation Planet, a Japanese production company and a division of the Sega Sammy Group.

Marza CEO Masanao Maeda stated: "Sonic has had dozens of adventures on the console and the small screen, and we're thrilled that he's now coming to the big screen. Sony Pictures has had great success with hybrid animated and live-action features, and we're confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him."

Sonic has had massive success since his debut back in 1991. He has had several television series and, while his games have received mixed reviews over the past few years, he continues to have a massive international fan-base.
