A woman in South Carolina was arrested on Saturday after she lifted a Bible from a local Walmart.
The Smoking Gun reported that authorities said Frances Thomas was spotted by an employee putting the book in her purse. She also tried to steal cheese and socks while she was at it.
According to the police report, loss prevention associate Margaret Kirby said that she saw Thomas “select a bible, several packs of socks, and some cheese then conceal it all inside her purse and proceed to pass all points of sale.”
The suspect was approached by loss prevention officers outside the store who then called police.
The Huffington Post noted that the 33-year-old was taken into custody at the Spartanburg County Jail for shoplifting and released later that evening.
The items allegedly stolen were recovered and are suitable for resale.
Even though the Good Book advises readers not to steal, the Bible is statistically the most stolen book of all time.
