One thing is clear about the plot of Star Wars: Episode VII - there will be sequences on Tatooine. New photos from the Abu Dhabi set make that obvious.
TMZ just published over 40 photos from the set, which do not show the main cast. However, if you can look beyond the giant “TMZ” watermark, you can see that there are plenty of new creatures and machinery in the works for the movie.
It does appear that Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping true to their word that there will not be an over-reliance on CGI, as a full-size large creature was built. Sources for TMZ said that it took five men to operate the creature.
The gallery shows the set of a marketplace, which means that we are probably going back to that “hive of scum and villainy” known as Mos Eisley.
Episode VII is being filmed in London with the main cast, plus on location work in Abu Dhabi. Back on May 16, director J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company confirmed that filming started that day, but days later, Abrams himself appeared in a video from Abu Dhabi. Abrams and Disney announced a contest, in which fans can enter to win a walk-on part in the movie. Proceeds from the contest will go to the “Force For Change” charity, set up with UNICEF.
It was also recently announced that Gareth Edwards, who directed the new Godzilla reboot, will be directing the first Star Wars spinoff film. That will hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016, but Disney didn’t say what character the film would focus on.
Episode VII opens on Dec. 18, 2015.
