The British tabloid press can cook up some good rumors and this new one on Star Wars: Episode VII seems a bit crazy. A report over the weekend linked Tom Cruise to the project, claiming that he is in talks for a cameo, which would reunite him with his Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams.

The Sun claims that Cruise has been in London for at least a week and met with Abrams and other executives.

“On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. produced Mission: Impossible 5 and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance,” a source told the paper, reports Entertainment Wise.

It should be noted that M:I 5 hasn’t happened yet, but Abrams does plan on continuing his relationship with that franchise. Abrams did produce Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and will produce M:I 5. Christopher McQuarrie is directing that film, which will open in December 2015 (the same month Episode VII opens).

Nothing has been confirmed and this rumor does sound a little fishy. Abrams and Cruise might just be meeting for M:I 5, which is going to have to start production soon.

It was reported on Friday that Rian Johnson (Looper) will direct Episode VIII and write Episode IX.
