Although talk was swimming around the Internet late yesterday and earlier today that Steve Martin would be making his third go-round in the Father of the Bride series, the star has come out to dismiss that the sequel is happening. Or, at least, that he has been approached to be in the movie in any way, shape or form.

After NikkiFinke.com got the "scoop" on Father's Day that Warner Bros. and Disney were trying to get the rights together to make a new sequel, with the Charles Shyer returning to his duties as writer and director, Martin went on Twitter and jokingly commented the following:

The sequel was said to center on Martin's character, George, coming to grasp with the fact that his son is gay and getting married to a Navy SEAL's son. Considering that the primary source in Finke's article was anonymous, there was already suspicion towards how accurate her report really was.

While Martin denounces that he is currently signed on to the film, this doesn't necessarily dismiss that the studio or the filmmaker are shopping the movie around Hollywood now. Of course, without Martin, it seems extremely unlikely that anyone from Disney would bite, despite having "loved the pitch" in Finke's original post.

Additionally, with that in mind, these recent reports could cause someone from the Mouse House to make this new Father of the Bride sequel a reality, especially considering that, while Martin is well-spirited about not being in the movie, he hasn't turned down the possibility of starring in one either. Well, at least publicly. Considering that Father of the Bride: Part II will be having its 20th anniversary next year, there is at least some reason to believe that Disney would be curious about making this movie.

While Martin may or may not be seen in a new sequel to Father of the Bride, he will be heard in the upcoming DreamWorks Animation film Home on March 27, 2015. He was last seen on the screen in 2011's The Big Year. He is currently on tour with his band, Steve Martin and the the Steep Canyon Rangers, as they continue promoting their 2011 CD, Rare Bird Alert.
