Although it has been rumored to be true for the past couple months, it has now become official that the untitled Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks and The BFG are director Steven Spielberg's next projects behind the camera.

The news was revealed by Exhibitor Relations, who tweeted the following around noon:

Shortly following that tweet was this one:

With these dates set into place, the rumors that filming on the Tom Hanks-starring Cold War would start in September are now becoming more likely. With a script rewritten by the Coen brothers, this will now officially become one of the hottest films of fall 2015.

Additionally, it has been rumored since at least last month that filming is to begin on The BFG in early 2015. With a July 1, 2016 release date, this is now more than likely the case. An early filming date next year should give the filmmakers enough time to complete all the special effects needed to make the project come to life.

With these dates so close to one another, it appears that Spielberg will be working on two projects at once again, but the filmmaker is no stranger to doing such a task. A recent example would be The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse, which were both released just mere weeks from one another in December 2011. Other examples include Munich and War of the Worlds, both released in 2005, Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can in 2002, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Amistad in 1997, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in 1993, Always and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 and so on.
