A Sudanese Christian woman, who originally faced a death sentence, but was freed, only to be arrested again, is now at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum.

Mariam Yehya Ibrahim’s husband, American Daniel Wani, told CNN that his family was freed from custody on Thursday and are now at the embassy.

On Tuesday, the couple was detained at an airport as they were attempting to leave the country with their two small children.

Ibrahim was accused by Sudanese authorities of traveling with falsified documents.

In May, the 27-year-old woman was sentenced to death by hanging for not renouncing her Christian faith. The Court of Cassation also convicted her of adultery and sentenced her to 100 lashes. However, earlier this week the court canceled her sentence and released her before she was stopped on her way out of Sudan.

Ibrahim’s mother was Orthodox and her father was Muslim. Even though her father left when she was a child and she was raised Christian, under Sharia law, she is considered to be Muslim because of her father.
