The Sudanese Christian woman who was sentenced to death, but released, has been rearrested.
Meriam Ibrahim’s legal team told CNN on Tuesday that their client and her husband, Daniel Wani, were arrested at an airport in Khartoum as they were attempting to leave Sudan.
The reason for the arrests have not yet been disclosed.
Just one day ago state media reported that Ibrahim’s death sentence was canceled by the Court of Cassation and she was freed from prison.
The 27-year-old was originally convicted in May for not renouncing her Christian faith and sentenced to death by hanging. The court also convicted her of adultery and sentenced her to 100 lashes. She was eight months pregnant at the time.
Ibrahim’s mother was Orthodox and her father was Muslim. Even though her father left when she was a child and she was raised Christian, under Sharia law, she is considered to be Muslim because of her father.
Ibrahim husband is a Catholic U.S. citizen and the two have been married since 2011.
