Cops have reported that two teenagers were plotting a mass shooting at a Tennessee high school and had even studied the 1999 Columbine High School shootings.
According to New York Daily News, a counselor told authorities of the plan when one of the suspects told them about the plan to kill the students and faculty at Tennessee’s Volunteer High School.
Sheriff Ronnie Lawson even spoke of how the teenager was inspired by the previous Columbine shooting and even “took the time to study their plan, and he found there were mistakes they made that he would not.”
The investigation moved quickly and the boys were banned from the school. However, even though the arrests just occurred, the investigation began in October.
WBIR reported that Lawson spoke at a press conference on Friday saying, “I want you to know that this wasn’t just a threat- it was a planned attack.” The 15-year-old who told the counselor was apparently interested in mass murders while the other suspect was interested in weapons.
Upon conducting a search of the suspect’s home, evidence was found including guns, firecrackers, and the floor plan of their school.
There were even journals depicting how to block exits and to shoot the school security officers first.
According to CBS News, Assistant District Attorney Ryan Blackwell said there was a detention hearing held and the case could end up in adult court.
