Two months after an Oklahoma inmate’s execution was botched, three inmates are now scheduled for execution.
Reuters reported that an inmate in George is scheduled for execution on Tuesday. There are still questions about what went wrong during April’s execution, especially since a recent autopsy report found the execution team used improper measures to find a vein to use.
The executive director of the Death Penality Information Center, Richard Dieter, said “We’re in a new climate. Everyone- the federal government, the president- is watching.”
The inmate, Marcus Wellons, is scheduled to die through lethal injection at 7 pm Eastern. He was sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 15-year-old neighbor. Besides Georgia, another execution is scheduled to occur on Wednesday.
The Associated Press reports the third state planning an execution is Florida. John Winfield is set to be executed around midnight on Wednesday in Missouri and John Ruthell Henry in Florida is scheduled for execution at 6 pm on Wednesday.
Besides these three, there were six other executions that were stayed due to Clayton Lockett’s botched execution.
Georgia and Missouri only use one drug for lethal injections while Florida uses three, just like Lockett’s in Oklahoma.
