The Broadway show After Midnight is set to close its run June 29 after eight months of performances.
The musical is a celebration of Duke Ellington’s years at the famous Cotton Club nightclub in Harlem and features music by the jazz legend performed by a 17-piece band and poetry by Langston Hughes.
After being nominated for seven Tonys, After Midnight won a Tony for best choreography, according to Entertainment Weekly. The musical also won two Drama Desk Awards, four Astaire Awards, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for best choreography.
Several stars have performed in the show, including Fantasia Barrino, K.D. Lang, Toni Braxton, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Vanessa Williams, reports The Washington Post.
Some of the songs from the show are “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and “Stormy Weather.” The show’s emcee is Psych star Dule Hill.
By the time the musical ends, it will have performed 19 previews and 272 regular performances over the course of eight months.
