Whether we realize it or not, the evolution of TV has changed drastically. Shows have gotten more bold, plotlines continue to grow more shocking by the episode, and no character is ever safe from anything, ever.
Previously, we could sit down and watch a show resting assured that the main character, or our favorite characters for that matter, would overcome everything in their path. We were never upset for too long, because things would work out in the end, and more often than not, there would be a happy ending.
Today, every character is at risk, favorite or not. We could spend an entire season following the life of a character and in the next episode, they’re gone. HBO’s Game of Thrones, is known particularly for its brutality and the most shocking deaths in TV history. With the possibility of Tyrion’s death looming over the final episode this Sunday, fans are preparing themselves for a tragically, epic season finale. I’m sure people are still recovering from the last major loss of the show, Prince Oberyn.
