While many of this week’s new limited releases are drama-filled, the two major films bring comedy and music to theaters. Kevin Hart aims for laughs in a new sequel and a hit Broadway show gets adapted for the big screen.
The story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is told in Jersey Boys. The two hour and fourteen minute musical film showcases the popular 60’s group’s songs while providing the backstory behind them. The biopic is rated R for language.
It’s a bachelor and bachelorette party battle in Think Like a Man Too. In the sequel to the 2012 film, the couples head to Vegas for a wedding. When the women decide to turn the tables and follow the men’s playbook, the men strike back and all hell breaks loose. The group’s adventures could even affect the wedding. The PG-13 romantic comedy stars Adam Brody, Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence J, Gabrielle Union, and Kevin Hart. It plays for one hour and forty-five minutes.
Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, James Franco, Olivia Wilde, Maria Bello and Kim Basinger star in Third Person. The two hour and sixteen minute drama tells the interrelated stories of three couples in different areas of the world at different stages in their relationships. The limited released film is rated R for language and sex.
A dinner party gets scary during a rare astronomical event in Coherence. When the comet passes, strange things begin to happen to the guests and they find themselves trapped in a mind game. They soon begin to question whether someone amongst them is in cahoots with the creepy house down the block. The unrated sci-fi thriller is running in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-nine minutes.
A director is frustrated at the auditions for his play in Venus in Fur. When the perfect actress for the part comes into the theater, he can’t get enough of her. He becomes obsessed with her and her emulation of the character. The unrated drama is written and directed by Roman Polanski. The film plays for one hour and thirty-five minutes. It’s available in limited theaters.
The documentary, Code Black, shines a light on the Emergency Department at Los Angeles County hospital. Known as one of the busiest in the country, the doctors and nurses here deal with split second life and death decisions on a regular basis. The unrated film is running in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-two minutes.
Just like last week and this week, next week another sequel hits theaters. Transformers: Age of Extinction makes its debut on June 26.
