Two suitcases containing human remains discovered on Wisconsin road

Two bodies were discovered in two suitcases by police on Friday after a Wisconsin highway department crew found them while cutting grass.

Apparently the workers did not look inside either bag found on a Geneva road and it wasn't until town residents called in to police that the bodies were found, the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reports.

There has been no official comment on the condition of the human remains, but a resident who lived closest to where the bodies were found, Diane McCarten, said, "The detective said the bodies were decomposing."

In a statement, Geneva Police Chief Steven R. Hurley offered reassurance, saying, "The citizens of the town of Geneva can rest assured that this is an isolated incident, and the crime did not occur where the bodies were located."

According to The Associated Press, the sheriff said that the discovery was weird. "It's a very quiet town, a close-knit town. Everybody knows everybody else."

The Waukesha County Medical Examiner's Office was set to perform the autopsy, while police are going through missing persons' reports as they look to identify the bodies.
