A 28-year-old man from Utah has been arrested and is faced with child abuse charges for chaining his 6-year-old son to a bed in their Logan City home.
Police visited the home Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. after receiving an anonymous call about the abuse. They entered the home and found the boy chained to a metal bed frame padlocked to his ankle. His father was at work, and no other children or the child’s mother are believed to have been living in the Logan home.
ABC News reports that Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said that the boy had access to snacks and water. He also said that the chain was “just long enough” that the boy could reach the restroom.
Police arrested the boy’s 28-year-old father for chaining his son to the bed. He was taken to the Cache County Jail on four counts of child abuse. His name has not yet been revealed so as to protect the identity of the child.
The Examiner reports that the man does have a past record of criminal history. In 2009, he was convicted of theft and forgery. He was then arrested in 2011 for breaking the terms of his probation.
Chief Jensen claimed that the boy appeared to be in relatively good health. The 6-year-old is currently in custody of child welfare services.
