A Naval base in Portsmouth, Virginia, has been placed on lockdown after a reported stabbing.
According to WTVR, a service member was injured in the stabbing which occurred at the Navy exchange near the Naval Medical Center on Friday morning.
The medical center posted on its Facebook page that a search for the suspect is underway.
“Security forces are looking for a white male, 165 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes, wearing tan cargo pants and a white shirt,” the post read.
A SWAT team has also been called to the scene for assistance.
Officials with the Navy have said that a code white, which refers to an armed suspect in the area, was put in place.
Over 4,000 military personnel and civilians work at the medical center. The hospital serves about 420,000 military members and their families. Those with appointments today are asked to stay away and avoid the area.
Authorities have not released the condition of the victim at this time.
