The apple may not fall far from the tree but sometimes the tree is near a hill, and an apple of two can roll away. And this just may be the case of Libby Phelps-Alvarez, the granddaughter of Fred Phelps, the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church.
For those who may not be familiar with the Church, they are most popular for their picketing of funerals for those whom church members believe deserve to be punished for the way they lived their life. But Libby Phelps-Alvarez was different in that 2009 she distanced herself from her family and their opinions by choosing to support a non-profit group that bought the house across the street from the church and painted it rainbow reports The Huffington Post.
Phelps-Alvarez chose to support Planting Peace, founded by Aaron Jackson and John Dieubon in 2004 where their main mission is peace. On their website it states, “Although our organization operates on a global level, we emphasize the power of one; the ability that each person possesses to make a difference in the world.”
Yet that is not all as she recently posed with her husband Logan and newborn son Paxton and other members of the Equality House a part of the NoH8 Campaign.
Rock on girl, but don’t go home for the holidays, it might not go over well.
