A woman’s body was found hanging from a tree just two weeks after two teenage girls were killed in the same manner.

The victim is a 45-year-old- unnamed woman. She was previously threatened for selling liquor in the area, BBC News reported.

Locals said the woman made complaints about people involved in the liquor trade, The Indian Expressreported.

Although the exact cause of death is not yet known, the family claims she was gang raped.

According to the Hindustan Times, the victim had been missing the evening before as she was returning back to her village.

The woman went missing after she phoned her son to pick her up. When he arrived, he noticed his mother was not there.

A complaint was made to the police by the family. They named five people who they believe were involved in the murder.

Rapes in Indian have escalated since the 2012 Delhi bus gang rape.
