A 49-year-old Canadian woman took a selfie video of herself while she experienced stroke-like symptoms which helped doctors diagnose her properly.
According to Yahoo News, Stacey Yepes went to the emergency room last April after experiencing numbness in her face and began having trouble speaking. The tests showed up negative for strokes, and Yepes was told it was likely caused by stress.
Yepes experienced the sensations again two days later and grabbed a camera to record the event to prove that it couldn’t have been stress related. The minute long video shows Yepes saying that her left side was tingling and she tried to smile and lift her hand, unsuccessfully.
The woman had the idea to film herself to give someone a better understanding as to what was happening to her, the Daily News reported. She knew there was no way symptoms that severe could only be stress related.
The video ultimately helped doctors make the diagnosis that Yepes had in fact experienced a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or mini stroke. The episode was caused by a buildup of plaque in her arteries called, atherosclerosis.
Yepes is undergoing treatment for her condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
