Health officials in West Africa said that 50 new cases of Ebola have been reported and 25 people have died from the virus since July 3.

The Associated Press noted that 34 new cases of the deadly disease were reported by Sierra Leone and 16 by Liberia in the past few days the World Health Organization said.

According to Reuters, Guinea's ministry also reported that there have been two deaths since Thursday, but no new cases in the past week.

"If we don't stop the transmission in the several hotspots in the three countries we will not be able to say that we control the outbreak," WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said.

The Ebola outbreak has been such a problem for the African nations over the past several months with 844 cases reported and 518 of them fatal.

There is no known cure for the disease, which is spread by personal contact, therefore if infected, an isolation period is necessary.

The virus occurs in humans and primates and kills 60 to 90 percent of its victims. Some of the symptoms include arthritis, chills, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and internal as well as external bleeding.
