A young girl who was hit by a plane that crashed landed onto a Florida beach Sunday passed away from her injuries on Tuesday.
Oceana Irizzary, 9, and her father, Sgt. 1st Class Ommy Irizarry, 36, were hit by a small single-engine plane on Venice's Caspersen Beach that was coming in for an emergency landing, The Associated Press reports.
The girl was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but her father died on Sunday. Unfortunately Oceana later succumbed to her injuries. The family was celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary.
"Our previous Oceana has joined her daddy in heaven," the family said in a statement, according to NBC News. "There are no words to describe the suffering we are experiencing."
The pilot of the plane and his passenger both survived the crash landing with no injuries. The crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Ahead of the emergency landing at the beach, the pilot radioed in to Venice Airport to let them know he wouldn't be able to make it there, an official said.
